VITA: Chris Groovesigns Partsch studied classical percussion at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Prof. Adel Shalaby, graduating as a state-certified musician. At the age of 21 he was solo timpanist of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. After returning to Germany, he completed his master class studies with an artistic degree (KA) at the Stuttgart University of Music under Prof. Klaus Tresselt. In 2011 he founded the first German-language cajon school on the internet: drum-online TV. Chris has mastered over 20 percussion instruments. As an artist and active drummer, he is at home in a wide variety of musical styles. In 2016 he developed the "NEW GENERATION CAJON". An instrument with previously unknown features, all of which are protected by the DPMA (German Patent and Trademark Office). As author of the: The Groove-Sign Book, he holds seminars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with the GROOVESIGNS® method he developed.

The handpan is a very accessible and easy-to-learn musical instrument that can be played intuitively. The interplay of movement and sound relaxes, makes you happy and allows you to express your mood.
Get creative, enjoy the meditative sounds, immerse yourself and find peace. You can also play driving and exciting rhythms from all over the world on the handpan.

The GROOVESIGNS® method is a "language" with only 5 characters but thousands of possibilities. GROOVESIGNS® are a supplement or an introduction to "normal" notation. There are three symbols: ∆ ⨆ I as rhythm building blocks. There is always a constant unit of rest after each symbol. In the GROOVESIGNS® handpan method, ∆ ⨆ I is played on the shoulder (= flat area next to the central tone field on the top) of the handpan. There is also a symbol: ◯ for the center (=thing), which is played exactly there on the lowest note. The ▢ symbol stands for a tone field (= note). A number indicates which tone field is being played.

My workshop is about learning to play the handpan easily and with pleasure. I will show you the basics and the different techniques you can use to play the individual notes of the handpan. I will explain to you how to write and create your own melodies and compositions. We will practise the rhythms you play with the handpan and how to compose your own music. In the handpan workshop you will also learn how to play several handpan instruments at the same time and how to enjoy music as a listener. The lessons in the Handpan Drum Workshop are suitable for beginners and advanced players.
