The sound of the Orient is in every KitaPantam. Made in Esfahan, in the heart of Iran, Kita is one of many civilian projects of hope and peace in a politically turbulent country. Kita is one of the first manufacturers outside Europe to become part of our Handpan.World network. These instruments not only bring their own unique and special sound spectrum, but also expand the Handpan.World Vision: A worldwide, solidarity-based association of the handpan community. We are so grateful to now also represent the Orient and its sounds in the Handpan.World universe.
KitaPantam is extremely creative and experienced in developing unique handpan designs. No other high-quality handpan maker offers such a range of unusual finishes. This makes it possible to fulfill special design wishes. You can personalize your Kita handpan to your style. We offer a large number of fascinating designs that only the Kita team can create.
We have at least one design in stock for every classic tuning. If your desired design is not currently available, you can order it through the Handpan Online Shop. Since Kita has already prepared almost every tuning with nine and ten tone fields, a custom-made instrument takes approximately 5 weeks to be delivered to you. For special tunings - especially low scales or extended handpan instruments with many additional tone fields and bottom notes, the production time can also take up to three months.
KitaPantam is one of the few handpan manufacturers worldwide that can produce almost all scales and tunings - including those considered particularly demanding, such as mutant handpans and low scales.
Mutant handpans are those that have additional notes between the ding and the tone circle. These instruments give the player more versatility and flexibility when playing complex melodies.
Extended handpans with bottom notes are instruments with additional tone fields on the underside. Kita Pantams can have up to 20 tone fields on a handpan. You can find out which scale can be built with how many tone fields in the respective product.
Low scales, with root notes from B2 to F2, can also be made.
The process of making these special instruments is significantly more time-consuming and riskier than with regular handpans. Production can therefore take up to three months and is more expensive than conventional tunings.
Nitrided steel is a heat-treated steel sheet into which nitrogen has been introduced. Nitrogen ensures a hardening of the material and makes it more stable and resistant to impacts and playing touches. This increases the tuning stability of the handpan and allows the player to enjoy the instrument longer before it needs to be retuned. Nitrided steel was initially used to make the Hang by PanArt and was later further developed by the handpan, pantam and sound sculpture makers.
Although handpans are made today from both nitrided steel and stainless steel, nitrided steel -the original material of the first handpans- still seems to have greater demand among handpan enthusiasts. This type of material offers a medium sustain range, more ceramic and clay sound, and high frequencies in the notes, which makes it good for playing outdoors. Furthermore, the notes have a clearer and more separated sound, which optimizes the KitaPantams made of nitrided steel for faster and more professional playing.
Steel is known to always be prone to rust and corrosion, and so are the nitrided Kita Pantams. To protect them from rust, they should always be cared for with the appropriate oil/wax. You can find all the know-how on how to protect your Pantam or handpan here: -> Handpan Care
KitaPantam makes their raw shells themselves - unlike many other makers. In a special pressing process, they manage to press the shells evenly, so that the material thickness is evenly distributed. Other shells have the problem that they are thinner towards the center than at the edge - which leads to less tonal stability.
We are currently selling all remaining stock of Kita Pantam handpans in the Galaxy design for €100 less. Only while supplies last
The reason for this is that the Galaxy design is slightly more prone to discoloration and surface rust. A few of the instruments in this clearance sale already have visual defects.
Tonally, all instruments are top-notch!
Discoloration also has no effect on tuning stability. And even surface rust cannot harm the sound if it is removed promptly. Only the design is damaged.
Proper care is important for all handpans. With the Galaxy design, you should be a little more thorough if you value the appearance
Handpans made of nitrided steel require the protective layer on their surface to be renewed regularly. By applying a special handpan care oil, a patina is created that protects your instrument from the effects of salts, acids, and moisture. This helps prevent rust formation and discoloration of the material and ensures the long-term preservation of the original surface appearance. Use a very soft microfiber cloth when caring for your handpan to avoid scratches. To ensure proper care of your handpan, we recommend one of our Handpan Care Oils or Care Sets.
Before applying the Handpan Oil, you should definitely remove accumulated dirt, such as grease, salts, and acids, with high-percentage cleaning alcohol. This prevents the care oil from mixing with substances that are harmful to the steel and negatively affecting the material despite the supposed protective layer. You can get cleaning alcohol such as isopropanol at any drugstore, as well as many supermarkets, or you can easily order it here through the Handpan.World online shop.
Neglected care can lead to surface rust and even deep rust formation, especially with nitrided handpans. Therefore, weekly care of your Kita handpan is essential.
Important notes:
Never store your handpan in a bag.
Wash your hands before playing.
Tuning name: Kurd
Synonyms: Aeolian / with root note C# = Annaziska
Basic tone sequence (8+1): D/ A Bb C D E F G A
Effect: Warm - Mysterious - Dreamy
Tone inventory: Heptatonic
Mode: phrygian (tonal center 1st note ) = major
or aeolian (tonal center : B) = minor
Tonal center : DING or first note
Semitones : 7- 1 - 2 - 2 - 2- 3 - 2 - 2
The Kurd tuning is, if you will, the natural minor variant of the handpan tunings. Due to its particularly harmonious arrangement of notes, it is especially suitable for beginners. With it, you can play everything from calm and meditative to melancholic, powerful, and cheerful.
Even though this tuning can sound very sentimental, you can also create cheerful soundscapes with it. For example, this results in a major triad on the second and third notes respectively. Just be aware that the second and third notes will rub together when played simultaneously; of course, you can also deliberately use this tension to add spice to your playing and make the subsequent relaxation even more pronounced.
This tuning is one of the first heptatonic tunings that were built, and it has become very well known through several videos on the internet.

Kurd takes the name of the Arabic / Turkish maqam Kurd. This maqam also shares this tone selection with the arrangement of the notes if we assume that the tonal center is on the first note in the circle. This creates the full Phrygian mode, which is characterized by a semitone step (semitone) from the root note to the second note of the scale and is responsible for the mysterious sound of the scale.
However, an ambivalence remains, as the DING lies a fifth below the first note and thus acts as a second tonal center, which changes the mode to Aeolian (natural minor). Depending on the playing style, you can thus switch between natural minor and Phrygian sound character. With Kurd you can play everything from calm and meditative to melancholic, powerful, and cheerful.
Kurd shares with other minor variations (cf. Celtic Minor/ Integral) the jump of a fifth from the DING to the first note. From this fifth step, if we assume that the tonal center is the DING, you have all the steps of a natural minor scale (aeolian). Especially with Kurd is the semitone step (semitone) between the first and second note. This step is also present in the maqam of the same name Kurd (Arabic or Turkish scale system) (cf. Semai Kurd), but also in the Phrygian mode. The Phrygian mode is used in jazz, psychedelic rock, flamenco and fado, but also in classical music.

Nima Taghavi started building handpans in 2015 and founded KitaDrums at the end of the year - today KitaPantam. Initially, Nima Taghavi still built 12-inch steel tongue drums and simultaneously explored the art of handpan building. With the further development of the workflow and manufacturing processes, the steel tongue drums were replaced by stainless steel instruments, and soon after Tongue Pans (overtone tongue drums) were also added to the portfolio.
At the end of 2017, KitaPantam managed to build the first handpans or pantams, as they call their instruments. Since then, the range of various instruments has been continuously expanded and further improved. The now 20-person maker team is today probably the highest quality manufacturer of handpans from Iran. All instruments are handcrafted by Nima and his team. KitaPantam is made with passion, dedication and perfection.
We at Handpan.World are grateful for the very close cooperation and have the honor to offer these unique instruments exclusively in Europe.

Kita Pantam B2 Celtic Minor / Amara
I bought the Kita F Low Pygmy 16 notes (extended upwards for high notes) nitrided handpan in the vintage look. I am more than pleased with the instrument. The sound is, in my view, a perfect mix between nitrided and stainless steel. The sustain is long but not too long. The tuning is perfect. The sound seems softer and warmer than typical nitrided steel pans and doesn't have that predominantly ceramic tone. In my vieww, it's perfect for a calm meditative style of play while at the same time allowing for more rapid styles. Sound is a matter of personal taste. I love this one and would recommend it.

Store owner replied: Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful review! 😊 We’re really happy to hear how much you enjoy your Kita F Low Pygmy 16 and that the balance between sustain, warmth and response feels just right for you. It’s especially nice to hear that the instrument works so well for both calm, meditative playing and more dynamic styles. As you said, sound is always very personal – so we’re even happier that this one seems to be such a great match for you. We wish you many beautiful moments with your handpan and lots of inspiration while playing!

Einfach hochwertig verarbeitet.

Our handpans are elaborately crafted by hand. Even though our handpans are made with the utmost care and craftsmanship, natural differences in color, slight variations in design and minimal manufacturing marks, such as fine scratches or unevenness on the tone fields and the sound body, may occur.
Visible hammer marks, which are caused by the precise tuning of the instrument by hand, are characteristic features of handmade handpans. They are evidence of authentic craftsmanship and do not represent a quality defect. On the contrary, they emphasize the uniqueness of each instrument.
